Sound Classifier Demo - Troubleshooting

The applet doesn't start.

First of all, check that you have a working Java plugin in your browser. If you're using the IcedTea plugin on Linux, then try this page instead (due to a bug in the plugin, it can't start applets from the code enforced by our CMS). Otherwise, check the browser's security settings - they may be set to deny execution of self-signed Java applets (yes, this applet is self-signed - a signing certificate from a certificate authority is rather costly).

The applet flickers.

Assuming you're using OS X, then you'll have to live with it - it's a consequence of how Java applets interact with browsers on OS X.

The counter doesn't increase when I'm producing sound in the microphone.

Your microphone input is probably not set up properly. On Windows 7, right-click the speaker icon in the system tray, select Recording devices and ensure that the level indicator for your microphone device reacts when you produce sound. Otherwise, it might be because you produced a lot of noise before you started the first recording, so the recording threshold level became too high (it adjusts itself automatically in the beginning). In this case, just reload the page and avoid producing too much noise before the first recording.
